I asked and FB friends answered. Mass shootings are an overwhelmingly male activity. I'd rather get rid of high volume weaponry, improve mental health services tremendously, study root/cures of male rage/sexual violence and fix them, but perhaps we need to rethink men?

It’s amazing how hard we look to not see the male violence all around us. Mass shootings are but one subset of male violence. Who run gangs? Who start wars? Who beats women and abuses children? Who kills other men? Overwhelming it’s men. When are we gonna talk about it?

Pointing out that the majority of mass shootings in the US are carried out by male white conservatives is political. Saying gun violence could be reduced by removing the easy access to guns is just common sense and demonstrable by other countries

Actually a good article that explains why men are more likely to use violence and in the US that means firearms. But why is the word “white” installed in the headline? The stats it gives on white people: 60% of the population; 63% of mass shootings. So it’s a male problem.
-
The US President seeks greater authoritarianism and predictive tech to prevent mass shootings, when we know it is baked in white supremacy and the alienation of patriarchy and capitalism that drives the violence of white male shooters.

Let’s talk. (A thread) As a white American male, I’m going to speak for the subset of us that exist and say this: There is not a single young professional, free & fair thinking, moderate white male that believes mass shootings and gun violence is acceptable. (1/7)

• less than 1% of gun-related homicides in the US are by mentally ill people • only 6% of mass killers have been recorded as "psychotic" • just 3-5% of ALL violence in the US is by mentally ill people • yet in 100% of mass shootings the perpetrator is MALE and has a GUN https://twitter.com/thalestral/status/964127518021136385 …

Yes, cause open borders are the reason for the mass shootings. NOT. Theyre done by WHITE, MALE, AMERICAN, CITIZENS. These horrific acts of violence are Directly caused by Trump and Co. His rhetoric and Us vs Them propaganda are what is causing this
-
Mass shootings in the US are the product of white male entitlement leading to resentment and a vengeful mentality. Men are taught that violence is the proper response to being slighted or wronged, especially by those who "should" show deference to white male desires.

FBI arrested white male terrorist. Thank you brave men and women for saving us from mass shootings and bombings. We lost 313 men, women and children to gun violence perpetrated by white males.

places like australia and new zealand have strict gun laws and still have mass shootings and places like the us have few gun laws but notice how the US is by far the most complicit in allowing male violence and bigotry to continue

#apocalypse is frequently used to describe some of the effects of male violence, for instance, in mass shootings, terrorist attacks, and gang violence. The word comes to us from ancient Greek. The word calypsis means to conceal." ~Robert Tyminski, Jungian analystShow this thread -
And never mind that being 1) white 3) male and 3) a perpetrator of domestic violence is the profile of someone more likely than any other to commit acts of domestic terror with a gun, as in mass shootings. Forget all that and obsess over us scary brown/black people instead.

The angry white male has become a root of a lot of issues in the US. Mass shootings, domestic violence, drug abuse, bigotry and sexism.
-
I would be happy to give you stats. The majority of mass shootings are committed by white males in the US and the majority of those have domestic violence offenses. Look up stats of violence against women. Its a dysfunctional male stereotype which causes violence.
-
Why would you come to a tweet on mass shootings in the US that are committed almost completely by white men and talk about male violence across the planet? What does that add to the topic we are discussing?
-
FYI - sea lioning on this subject will get you blocked. If in the current climate of constant mass shootings in the US, your take is to try and blame mentally ill people instead of systematic white male privilege and violence Congrats, you're part of the problem.

A few things common about most mass shootings in the US. It almost always involves a male; it almost always involves a gun; there is almost always a history of domestic dispute/violence; and almost always we will reduce it to mental health in a broad sense!
-
Mass shootings = male problem, but also = American cultural issue. Mental health issues are not only males of course. The only real difference between US males and males across the world is gun access. Violence by males NORMALLY ends in a few punches or at worst knife crime.

Gun violence is most common in poor urban areas and frequently associated with gang violence, often involving male juveniles or young adult males.[12][13] Although mass shootings have been covered extensively in the media, mass shootings in the US account for a small fraction.

unpopular opinion: Mass shootings happen mostly in the US for obvious reasons, but non-gun issues are important too. People do mass killings everywhere all the time and it's important to address what causes this systematic and mostly male violence.

Mentally ill people also used to be institutionalized “for their own good.” When we’re talking about mass shootings, blaming it on mental illness is simply an excuse to keep us from confronting real societal problems with domestic violence and male entitlement. https://twitter.com/CriticalReader7/status/979384843866951680 …

Dude, statistics SHOW that mentally ill people are more likely to be victims of gun violence, as are domestic violence victims. Stop blaming us and look at cis white male entitlement, which is the common denominator in nearly ALL mass shootings.

The US is no different, some sub cultures will drift towards drugs, other religion, and finally, others to violence. In White Male subculture a societally acceptable way of expressing pain is through mass shootings under a larger umbrella of patriarchal violence.
